Shopping!

My view on Singapore as seen through my camera

Sentosa is now accessible through these shuttle trains. Price is the same as last year with the bus, however this shuttle is a bit faster and more convenient. However, of the 3 stops on Sentosa one is totally unneccessary, as it is still a construction site there and probably not accessible until the Casino currently being built there opens. The stations and shuttles are quite small, I wonder if they can handle all those masses that I used to see last year when taking the busses.

This shot was taking a few days after I arrived in Singapore. It's at Bugis Junction where they have this kind of fountain that keeps splashing in different patterns. You can usually see some kids playing there, thanks to the temperature here they don't have to worry very much about getting a cold (except of course if they went inside a shop/mall with the aircons....). The line in this pic obviously aren't fully horizontal, but somehow I think that this creates a nice flair.

This is actually a freehand shot, meaning I couldn't look through my viewfinder and had to take a few pictures to get this one.

Everywhere in Singapore you can see construction sites. This specific site here is next to the Boon Lay MRT and the Jurong Point Shopping Centre and I guess it will be the extension for the Mall. The contruction boom is due to the demand for more housing (the objective is to increase the population from currently 4.6 million to about 6.5 million) and of course the love of Singaporeans for shopping.

About 80%-90% of the population here in Singapore live in HDBs. The government had made it a law that there has to be a certain ratio of different races living in an HDB block to avoid "one-race-only" areas (e.g. only Chinese living there) and to maintain racial harmony. HDBs are being constantly improved and upgraded, sometimes older ones (e.g. from the 80s) are being torn down and a new HDB is built.
Another shot from the Botanic Gardens. There are usually lots of dragonflies around the small ponds, and although half of them don't hold still and fly away when approached, some are very brave and hold still. This dragonfly was very patient, during the 30mins I was around, it rarely flew away and if it did, it landed on the same spot again after a few seconds.

Took this shot shortly after the rain in the Botanic Gardens with my new 50mm macro lens.

It has been now about 10 months that I own my first DSLR, the Olympus E-500. During this time, my learning curve and thus the quality of my pictures have slowly increased (at least I think so). I intend to use this blog as both a showcase for some of these pictures as well as a method to show other people "my" Singapore.
So from today on, I will post a new photo and probably a bit background about it on every day. The photos don't have to be necessarily from the corresponding day, you might see several photos here taken on the same day.
